Founded back in 1847, the first secretary of the club, Mr.C.Humble, circulated a letter throughout the village. It is in this village it states the two objects that came about the forming of the club.
'First: to afford to the young men of the village during their leisure hours the rational enjoyment of an innocent passtime : and secondly to bring together on one common and friendly footing the different classes of society.'
Both of these objectives of the forming of the Norton Cricket Club have been kept alive throughout the Club’s illustrious history, being crowned champions of the North Yorkshire South Durham League 11 times, Kerridge cup 7 times and the MacMillan cup 8 times. In terms of juniors the club is regarded as one of the strongest in the region for producing junior cricketers, and have won the Junior league a record 18 times, more than any other club in the N.Y.S.D.
2013 marked a new chapter for the Cricket Club in their return to the North Yorkshire South Durham League. This marked a double promotion for the 1st XI who were crowned champions of Division 2 and 1 at their first time of asking. Norton third team play in Sunday division 1 and fourth team play on a Saturday in the Langbaurgh League
